COLDSKY.CN – Children’s attention training company Joycus received nearly 10 million ($1.58 million) in funding from Cyanhill Capital (青山资本) to upgrade products and services.

Joycus launched by three mothers — May Dong(董春梅), Vivian Shi (施薇) and Hairong Song(宋海荣) — in 2016, adopts the Play Attention solution licensed from Unique Logic and Technology in Asheville, North Carolina.

The Beijing-based company now runs over 30 training centers across the country and also has cooperation with several public schools, according to Cyanhill Capital, which estimates brain science-based mind training has a 100 billion yuan market.

The main products are designed to improve seven cognitive skills of children from age 5 to 15 – attention, memory, visual information processing, auditory information processing, emotional control, motor coordination and logical thinking.

With the new fund, Joycus plans to offer a platform that combines online and offline activities, explore the market for more business customers, and also provide occupational training.

Play Attention’s founder Peter Freer said he was inspired by NASA’s feedback based technology to improve astronaut performance on flight simulator training. He then developed Play Attention to use the NASA technology for the classroom and home.

The three mothers said in a joint letter that Chinese children are over-reliant and have challenges with attention, are easily defeated, have poor self-help skills, and limited creative and imaginative abilities

At least 30 million Chinese children under the age of 17 suffer emotional or behavioral problems, according to a report issued by the China National Children Center in 2006. (http://www.china.org.cn/english/China/191782.htm)
